Strasbourg Institute of Materials Physics and Chemistry (IPCMS) - UMR 7504
Nanomagnetism and spintronics – Ultrafast optics – Nanophotonics – Optoelectronics – Nanomaterials – Hybrid materials – Carbonaceous materials - Bio-materials – Health materials – Molecular chemistry – Liquid crystal – Theory – Atomic scale modelling
The Institute was created in 1987 by merging five research units working in the fields of physics and chemistry of condensed matter. To date, IPCMS is a research center at the forefront of international research in the areas of nanomaterials and nanosciences.IPCMS' multidisciplinary characteristics are exemplified by its cutting edge activities in spintronics, magnetism, ultra-fast optics, electronic microscopy, STM, biomaterials, synthesis and characterisation of functional organic-inorganic materials. By spanning a wide range of observation scales, IPCMS research highlights properties of nano-scale objects, including supported molecules, organised nanostructures on surfaces as well as nano-devices. IPCMS can rely on a large variety of experimental equipments, finalised to the conception and characterisation of materials. Theory also plays an important role in IPCMS activities. The award of French excellence grants such as “LabEX NIE” and “EquipEX UNION et UTEM” exemplifies the Institute’s leading role.
